Log

You may wonder why a Captain’s Log for a sail that was less than a mile.   Well, this was the first time pulling up the anchor, docking and it was an occasion as the reason for docking at Ram Island Yacht Club was my goodbye party!

Overall, it all went very smoothly.   The best I can hope for with hauling anchor and docking is to be able to describe it as “uneventful”.    And uneventful it was!

The dock at Ram Island Yacht Club had plenty of depth and was free (great for the budget).   A reciprocal benefit of my West Bay Yacht Club membership.   The deck and lawn area were beautiful and the deck area covered – which was lucky as it was raining on and off for most of the day!

Given the original plan was to pack and provision in Rhode Island and say goodbye from there, I was lucky that with the change of plans due to weather almost everyone was able to make a last minute trip to Connecticut to say goodbye.   Plus, the old owners got to meet the Rhode Island gang and the Rhode Island gang got to meet the people who made this trip possible with the beautiful boat they entrusted to me.   I realize it was a standard sale transaction but it sure does not feel that way, boats get into your heart and I feel tasked with taking care of the beautiful vessel going forward!  A big responsibility!

It was so special having the people who supported the dream able to see it come to fruition in the form of my new floating home.   And of course, it was the blessing from East Greenwich Pastor Todd last time that kept the boat safe, so I wanted to ensure to have the new home blessed as well.

  1. I can attest that sailboats, even though transacted in mere currency, have a way of bonding with your soul; they have a spirt about them that can touch you deeply. Truly, a trust that is bestowed from one owner to the next. May you serve each other well, protect each other and build trust and respect as you venture forth on new beginnings.
I feel fortunate to be along for the adventure, thank you for the privilege.
    Cheers,
    Shane
